Future chef Dominick has toruble keeping off the pounds with his food-centric Italian family.
Sorry to disagree with the "degree in nutrition," but 2 ounces of pasta is 200 calories, and one cup is around 400. So yes, it is about portion size, but no one is going to eat 1 cup of pasta for their whole meal. A full plate of pasta is typically at least 1,200 calories, which can be your entire daily allowance when you're on a diet. Now, there are "low fat" pastas and whole grain pastas that can have less calories, but in general, it IS a fattening food. One of my friends eats pizza and hamburgers and fries all the time and isn't fat. Doesn't mean those therefore "must not be fattening foods." So you can't use yourself as a reference point, just because you didn't gain weight off it. Everyone has different metabolisms. When it comes to nutrition, it's about making better choices to get the most out of the calories you can consume for your daily allowance. So for 400 calories in one cup of pasta, you could instead have an entire meal of skinless, grilled chicken, vegetables, and a whole grain for around 400-600 calories that would be much more filling and have better nutrients in it. The show isn't saying "carbs are bad," it's just saying to pick better carbs that don't take up your entire daily caloric allowance with empty nutrients (like picking whole grain pasta over regular pasta). That's all.
You're so right! lol (if you ignore the morbid morbid obesity)
I know! I couldn't believe they threw out that unopened box of pasta like it was trash! What a waste.
I agree with you, I don't necessarily think pasta is unhealthy. The reason people say it is unhealthy is because it's not very nutrient dense. I have a degree in Nutrition by the way. For some reason the media has made people think that carbohydrates = unhealthy, but in reality it is a nutrient that your body needs just like protein and fat (in small amounts). I eat pasta all the time and I'm not overweight at all. To say something like pasta is fattening is just ignorant talk. Any food that contains calories can make you fat if you eat enough of it. It's more about portions sizes for this family than the actual food they're eating.
I thought it was a great episode and that Dominick did very well. I also thought his mother was very supportive; maybe she didn't agree with his decision to move downtown but she got over it. His mother knows she needs to lose weight and I thought she mentioned she had lost some lbs. Sheesh you think it's easy for overweight people?? So easy to criticize and be mean spirited behind the anonymity of message boards.
Dominick you did a great job! And I think your family was supportive; it's not easy to accept change!
why so mean?.lol
I love Italianos ..lol I think this show should of been about Dominicks mother cus shes a complete morbidly obeseeeeee. The family is not that supportive
Great .job Dominick! I love the support of your wonderful family and trainer. Keep up the good work!
