What would happen if we took your favorite fashionable celebs, showed them five outfits they've worn out in public over the years, and asked them, "What Were U Thinking?" You're about to find out!
R&B singer, Keri Hilson, has just started to hit the bigtime with smash singles like "Knock You Down," and "Turnin Me On," but she's already had enough time to make a huge impression as a hip-hop style icon. Born in 1982 in Decatur, Georgia, Keri spent her adolescence studying singing and piano, and performing with girl group DSign. Her favorite musicians were Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson, who most likely influenced both Keri's singing and her fashion sense; she wore an MJ-inspired look (complete with red Thriller jacket) to her '80's Flashback' birthday in 2008. Another big style influence on Keri was her mother, a fashion model who was very in tune with 70's and early 80's style and passed on lots of vintage dresses to her daughter.
Throughout the 2000's, Keri made her living as a songwriter and guest vocalist collaborating with artists like The Pussycat Dolls, Ciara, Ludacris, Usher, Diddy, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and Lloyd Banks. She co-wrote Britney Spears' big comeback single "Gimme More," in 2007, and was in the audience when Spears delivered her now legendarily disastrous performance at that years MTV Video Music Awards. But she wasnt just in the audience to watch Britney. That same year she had gone from working with Polow Da Don to super-producer Timbaland, who made her a guest vocalist on his second album, Shock Value, yielding the smash hits "The Way I Are," and "Scream." She had finally started to step out into the spotlight after being behind the scenes for so long, and it was time for her fashion sense to get on point.
Since then, Keri has fully embraced the neo-80's inspired/futuristic hip-hop style trend that began when Kanye West first started to make his own fashion forward choices a few years back. She loves bright colors, androgynous looks, wearing vintage dresses, and most importantly bangs. Her iconic front-bleached hairstyle has become a must-get look for girls visiting salons all over New York City, though shes gone from straight to wavey with plenty of ease. Keri finally released her debut album In A Perfect World, in March 2009 yielding the hit songs, "Turnin Me On" which features Lil Wayne, and "Knock You Down," which features Kanye West. Keri's dual status as a woman with an impeccable sense of style and a gifted singer has made her a true fashion icon. Watch out America- Keri Hilson's here and she's gonna knock you down!
