What is an MP3?
MP3 is short for “MPEG-1, audio layer 3.” It’s basically a digital audio file that’s been squeezed into a tiny space while still maintaining high sound quality. MP3 is an open format, which means anyone can use it, and MP3 is widely recognized as the most popular format for storing music on the Web.

How much hard drive space does an MP3 take up?
The basic equation is 1 minute of music = 1MB on your computer.

What is a WMA?
WMA stands for Windows Media Audio (.wma). These files require the newest version of the Windows Media Player. In addition, many WMA files have been digitally protected using Windows Media Rights Manager, so you must download both the music file and a license.
