About Episode

  1. What's it like to survive the nightmare of war but still be haunted by your experiences after returning to the US? One in five Iraq war veterans suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, a mental condition that can lead to extreme anxiety, insomnia, depression and even suicide. On this episode of True Life, you meet three young people struggling to overcome their PTSD so they can finally adjust to civilian life.

Arthur saw fierce combat in Iraq and started drinking heavily when he returned home. He desperately wants therapy, but can't get into a treatment center until a DUI case is settled.

Kenny made it through a year-long tour in Iraq, only to find himself contemplating suicide when he came back. With the help of medication and therapy, he's slowly finding himself getting better. But Kenny recently lost his job and may have to move to another state far away from his doctors.

Adam endured three deployments to Iraq. Now that he's home, he hasn't found that pills and therapy have helped his PTSD. He's trying to start an organization to help other vets that are similarly afflicted, but the extra responsibility may be too much for him to handle.
