Shanessa is a 19 year old dancer from Bronx, NY. She belongs to an urban dance team called "We run this." Shanessa spends most of her time competing in shows. She has a best friend named Dina who is very competitive, and they are competing for the middle spot on their dance team.
In practice Shanessa hurt her elbow and had to go to the hospital to check it out. The doctor had told her she has popped it, but she was allowed to dance. Even though she popped her elbow and endured the pain, Shanessa didn't want to lose the middle spot to Dina.
During tryouts, David, the team manager and Shanessa's boyfriend had decided that both of them would share the middle spot.

The competition brought the best in each other and in the last month Shanessa's dance team has competed three more times and won each contest. Shanessa and Dina are still sharing the middle spot.
