Karley and JR struggle to focus on the future despite the temptations they face at their summer shares.
The summer season is a time to celebrate. School's out - and thousands of young adults flock to resort destinations looking to let loose - and move in with like-minded housemates in summer shares. But sometimes living with your peers during these carefree months isn't all it's cracked up to be. On this episode of True Life, you meet two young people who are searching for happiness and success, despite what their summer living situation has to offer.
Karley has been in a non-exclusive relationship with Bull for two years. But now she's decided to move in with him in Ocean City to see once and for all if they should fully commit to each other. Because both of them lied about being faithful to each other in the beginning, Karley and Bull find it increasingly hard to trust each other -- especially when Karley's constantly hearing stories about naked girls cooking breakfast for Bull in the past and various girls still texting and call him now. Besides the fighting, Karley is having a hard time finding a job in Bull's town if they decide to continue living together once the summer's over. Both Karley's parents and friends think she should seriously think about whether or not Bull is worth uprooting her life for. As the end of the summer draws closer, Karley tries to spend more time with Bull and get an honest answer about when he'll be ready to her his real girlfriend but he remains aloof. Karley finally realizes that she hasn't been thinking logically about their relationship because she knows it means she'll have to end it. Bull isn't happy when Karley tells him she'll be moving home at the end of the summer and ending their relationship but claims he just can't give her an answer as to when he'll feel ready to commit to her. When Karley says goodbye before she leaves Ocean City, Bull tries to convince her to come visit him the next weekend but Karley knows it's time to move on from him.
JR works hard as s lifeguard in Myrtle Beach by day and parties even harder by night. Though he should be spending every second studying for the upcoming law school admissions test, his roommates are hardly sympathetic. Living in a four bedroom house with nine other hard-partying lifeguards, JR's mom is rightly concerned about JR's ability to focus on his studies. JR continues to ignore his books in favor of booze until he bombs one of his practice tests and realizes the toll his partying is taking on his future. Although he tries to stay focused on his studies, his roommates continue to encourage JR to just have fun for the summer. It also doesn't help that JR finds a video of his girlfriend Chriss making out with another guy. It turns out that the video was taken before JR and Chriss were exclusive, but JR's partying continues through the end of the summer. When he finally focuses on the test, JR realizes just how behind he is and must postpone taking the test by two months so he can properly prepare. JR may have had a great summer, but his future paid the price.
