About Episode

  1. For most Americans serving in Iraq, there's probably someone back home struggling with their loved one's absence. On this episode of True Life, you'll meet three young women doing their best to cope with the loneliness, fear, and added responsibilities that come from being left behind while their husbands fight overseas.

Mindi is an eighteen year old who has made the decision to marry fiancé Shane days before he ships out, instead of waiting until after he gets back as they'd planned to. Being so young, Mindi worries about her ability to cope with Shane's absence and uncertain future. The situation worsens when Mindi is forced to go days without hearing from Shane after he's been deployed, but fortunately her friends and other "army wives" are able to give Mindi the support she needs to stay strong for Shane.

Ketsy has never known adult life without her husband, Lawrence. However, in the year he's been in Iraq, Ketsy has come to enjoy her independence as well as the party scene. Worse, the two have grown apart and she's not sure there will be any connection left when he returns. Upon Lawrence's arrival home, they feel like such strangers that they even sleep in separate rooms. Will they be able to remember what drew them to each other in the first place, or will Ketsy miss her old lifestyle too much?

Crystal is also missing her old life. Before giving birth to her son, Crystal was a soldier in the army alongside her husband and loved it passionately. Brandon has been in Iraq through most of their son's life, leaving Crystal alone to handle all the work that comes with parenting a newborn. Bitter and lonely, Crystal dreams of re-enlisting and shedding her "army wife" persona. But she knows she can't risk having both her and Brandon be in the army and possibly orphaning their child. The question is whether or not Crystal can accept her new life.
