  1. All over the world people dream of moving to the United States. Some come for freedom, some come for work; but all immigrants must face the harsh realities of a place that can feel very strange to them. In this episode of True Life, you'll meet two young people from different corners of the globe looking for a better life in America against difficult odds.

Thimonthy has spent most of his life in a refugee camp, having been persecuted in his native Burma. Now, his family of seven is leaving the camp for the first time in ten years to move to Dallas. Although it's Thimonthy's dream to go to college in America, his family will not be able to afford rent without him working full-time. It's very discouraging for Thimonthy to have to work in a pickle factory while he watches his brothers and sisters attend school. However, instead of getting discouraged, Thimonthy works out a plan to get a new job that will allow him to one day attend night classes.

Bara is a star basketball player in the Czech Republic who fulfills her dream of getting a scholarship to go to an American college and play basketball. However, when she moves to New York, she leaves behind a very serious boyfriend. She struggles greatly trying to balance her schoolwork, basketball, and still make her long distance relationship work. Although her boyfriend's visa gets denied and separates them further, Bara is thrilled when she's given the opportunity to prove herself on the basketball court.
