About Episode

  1. On this episode of True Life, we follow the lives of Stephen, Jessica, and Chaz as they experience life outside of prison. Paying bills, re-adjusting to a normal life, reconnecting with family and loved ones, and finding employment are just some of the challenges that face these three as they re-enter the real world.

Stephen is an eighteen year old who was arrested for domestic battery while fighting with his out of control sister. He's returning home to his pregnant fiancé after sixty days in prison. Stephen's got bigger problems than preparing to become a dad though. He's got rent, bills, and a lot of legal fees that need to be paid and no job to help him do so. Will he be able to provide for his family the way he needs to?

At the age of twenty-seven, Jessica is a single mom with two daughters and a long history of DUI's. She hasn't allowed her girls to visit her in jail and is thrilled that they'll finally be reunited. Her ex-boyfriend, who has sole custody of the girls, is not as enthusiastic. Jessica struggles with the fact that she's at his mercy as far as when and if she can see her children. Her lawyer highly recommends entering a treatment program to prove she's changed, but Jessica is hesitant to do so. Jessica's going to have to work extra hard if she wants a second chance to prove she's a good mother.

Before he was arrested, Chaz had a bright future as a motocross bike racer. Instead, he was caught stealing cars and sentenced to three years in jail. He's been in prison so long that Chaz finds it hard to readjust to a life outside of bars. He constantly has to keep his temper in check and fight the urge to return to his partying ways. Still, Chaz is determined to go straight by getting a job, returning to his racing career, and even getting a driver's license.
