About Episode

  1. On this episode of True Life we follow the lives of three young people as they try and overcome their extreme problems with speech so they can lead normal lives. There's Tim, who stutters so severely that he's unable to even get a job interview. Because he can't work, he's unable to pay his bills and is forced to actually eat moldy foods and faces the possibility of eviction. He's going to have to work extra hard to convince a bar or restaurant to take a chance on him as a bartender that people won't always understand if he doesn't want to end up on the street.

Jess dreams of being a beauty queen, despite the fact that she struggles with speech. She's won a few crowns, but is now competing for the chance to become Miss New York. Because the interview portion is so crucial to the competition, Jess will have to practice with her speech therapist and maybe even re-adjust her attitude about stuttering if she wants to follow her passion.

Caryn has spent most of her life trying to hide the fact that she stutters from her family and friends. At age twenty, she's tired of living a lie and decides to enroll in an intense speech therapy program to try and overcome this problem. She'll have to face some of her greatest fears, including talking to strangers on the phone, coming clean to her friends about her stuttering, and even giving a speech about it in front of her family and classmates. But will all of this help Caryn stop stuttering?
