Frank and Jillian start to feel like everyone, on both teams, are out to get them.
The Veterans use all of their muscle at once to defeat the Rookies.
After Tyrie's unexpected departure from The Gauntlet III, the Rookies are down several people -- and they aren't even halfway through the challenges! Right now, the Veterans are feeling pretty confident.
When the Rookies and the Veterans meet up with host TJ Lavin, the Rookies are thrilled to discover that they're getting a replacement player -- MJ from The Real World: Philadelphia. With their new teammate and boosted spirits, the Rookies are ready for the "Push It" challenge. With two cars resting on a series of wooden slats, each team must use the slats to build a road for their car to move across the beach. One person drives while the rest of the team pushes and moves the slats -- but it doesn't matter whether the car touches the sand or not. The first team to cross the finish line wins.
With Jillian driving for the Rookies and Coral steering for the Veterans, both teams start to push and move the slats to get their car going. The Rookies take an early lead, despite having less people than the Veterans. But the Veterans make a last-minute comeback by abandoning the slats and pushing their car through the sand across the finish line. The Veterans win again!
As if the Rookies' defeat wasn't bad enough, teammate Melinda, who was accidentally hit in the head with one of the slats, is rushed to the hospital with fiancé Danny by her side and learns that she has a concussion. Danny tells Melinda to look on the bright side ... at least she won't be picked for The Gauntlet!
Despite Melinda's injury, the game must go on. With another win under their belt, the female Veterans are safe from The Gauntlet and the team must decide which Rookie will be saved and which one will be thrown into The Gauntlet. After some bickering, the Veterans decide to save Johanna and throw Janelle into The Gauntlet.
Then it's time for the Rookies to decide who Janelle will face-off against. Janelle insists on battling Jillian, causing a very smitten Frank to flip out and protect his girl. But Frank is overruled by the rest of the Rookies, so Jillian must face her third straight Gauntlet.
In The Gauntlet, Jillian and Janelle compete in the "Ball Brawl" challenge. There are five balls waiting to be retrieved and brought across the halfway mark to score points. The first girl to get four points wins.
As the challenge begins, Jillian and Janelle fight it out over the first ball until Janelle finally gets the upper hand and scores the first point. After Jillian scores the second point, Frank starts getting loud and coaching his girl from the sidelines. When Jillian wins, Frank is the only one that congratulates her.
The next challenge, called "Man Overboard," involves a huge sled that's hanging from a track that's suspended 25 feet above the water. Three to five teammates must sit on the sled and pull themselves across to the opposite side, where one person will jump off. Then they'll go back to the other side, where another person will jump off. When the last person jumps off the sled, time will be called. There will be three rounds and the team with the fastest combined time wins.
The Rookies get off to a rough start when Melinda decides not to compete because she's afraid she might injure herself again. But they quickly get on track and start pulling and jumping as fast as they can. The Veterans, however, continue their domination, easily carting themselves along faster than their foes. When all is said and done, the Veterans win.
With the male Veterans safe from The Gauntlet, they must choose one Rookie to go into The Gauntlet and another to protect. They decide to save Ryan and send Frank into The Gauntlet. Frank picks teammate Zach to go up against, and his team honors his wish.
When Frank and Zach step into The Gauntlet, they learn they'll be playing "Sliders." Each guy gets a jumbled puzzle that he must complete by sliding pieces around until the picture is revealed. With glasses on, Frank -- feeling like an "adrenaline-pumped nerd" -- is the first to complete his puzzle, easily defeating Zach and sending him packing.
At the end of the day, the Rookies hardly have anyone left, while the Veterans think they have too many people. Hoping to even the playing field, Kenny and Evan plot to throw the next challenge so they can get rid of some of the "dead weight" girls.
