It's week 13 of Road Rules 2007: Viewers' Revenge and David is, once again, back in The Pit. But who from the Pit Crew did the online voters choose to battle against David this time? Once again, it's Dan. And with these old rivals back in The Pit it's time for a new game.
This week the game is called "Shockwave," and it consists of David and Dan standing on small blocks in the middle of The Pit about six feet apart holding onto opposite ends of a piece of rope. The goal of Shockwave is to shake the rope away from your opponent -- if either person loses his grip and drops the rope or falls off his block, he loses. There's just one round, so winner takes all.
Dan and David take their positions on their blocks and they each grab an end of the rope as Roadmaster Drew Bell blows the whistle. Immediately, Dan starts whipping the rope up and down as fast as he can, and all David can do is hold on. As Dan keeps vigorously shaking the rope it snaps up and slaps David in the face over and over again. For a moment one of David's hands slips off the rope but he's able to pull it back in and get a firm hold.
After gaining control of his end, David goes to work whipping the rope as hard as he can. Dan avoids what happened to David by keeping the rope away from his face, but David's fierce whipping is too much and Dan loses his balance, falling forward off his block. David is once again crowned The Pit Champion and will rejoin his Road Ruler teammates on the Viewers' Revenge RV. And Dan? Well, Dan is no rookie to losing in The Pit, and if the current trend continues he may have at least one more shot in The Pit -- most likely against David.
As the RV pulls up to find David sitting by the side of the road there is general disappointment among most of the other Roadies. It's no secret that David feels betrayed by the others for constantly sending him into The Pit, and with him back on the RV there's definitely a possibility of David throwing a mission and fighting with the rest of the team.
The gang hits the road and the conversation inevitably turns to how the group is voting for The Pit. Derek, who's kept rather quiet recently and played nice with the other Roadies (to his advantage as he's stayed out of The Pit in the last two weeks), finally can't hold back his thoughts. Derek feels like no one is being honest and says he doesn't understand why there isn't a reasonable explanation for the fact that David or him will always be going into The Pit from now on. But before the conversation turns into an argument, Derek leaves the RV to cool off.
Outside, Derek explains that because it's so close to the end and the money is almost in reach, everyone will say and do anything to stay on the RV.
There isn't any more time for drama, though, as the Road Rulers receive a clue sending them to an outdoor film studio. When the gang shows up, they are, as always, welcomed by Drew. But this time Drew has a special guest with him, professional wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin. Stone Cold's here to help out with the mission this week, which is called "The Condemned."
For the mission, the Roadies are split up into guy-girl teams and given a specific task that will score each person a key. If they are able to collect all six keys, they will move on to the final step of the mission. Drew and Stone Cold warn them that this mission may be the hardest yet, but it will be worth it as a victory will bank them $20,000 (not the usual $10,000).
David and Susie are up first, and their task is called "Abandoned City." To receive their keys they must run across an open lot to a wall on the opposite side where their keys are hanging. However, it's not that simple because they will be chased by two trained guard dogs. After suiting up in padded, full-body protective gear, Susie and David take off for the keys. The dogs are let loose soon after and quickly catch up to David and Susie.
The dog that chases David goes for his arm and bites down on David's padded sleeve; David remains on his feet, though, and drags the dog with him all the way to the wall. Susie, on the other hand, gets attacked from behind by the other dog, which jumps up, sinks its teeth into her shoulder and knocks her to the ground. When Susie can't get up, David hobbles over with a dog still attached to his arm, picks her up -- with a dog still attached to her -- and walks all of them over to the wall. Susie plucks her key from the wall before falling over in exhaustion. The Abandoned City is complete.
Next up are Tori and Derek, and their task is "The Hall." For this task Derek and Tori have to crawl through a tunnel filled with rats. At the end of the tunnel there are two fish tanks, one filled with scorpions and the other with tarantulas. At the bottom of the tanks are their keys. After some hesitation and mild freaking out, Derek and Tori bite the bullet and start crawling through the rats, flicking the rodents when they get too close. Derek and Tori make it through, but now the hard part comes.
Although he really doesn't want to, Derek steps up and takes on the scorpions. He finds a small piece of wood and tries to gently move the mass of scorpions away from the key with it, but when he's not successful he decides to just dig in and hopefully avoid being stung. Fortunately, Derek's hand makes it out of the tank in one piece, and now it's Tori's turn. The tarantulas are more or less ignoring Tori but she struggles with getting the key. Derek comes over, coaches Tori through it and she comes up with the key unharmed. The two crawl back through the rats to the rest of the Roadies, Drew and Stone Cold having successfully completed The Hall.
Last are Adam and Kina, and their task is much worse than the first two. Adam and Kina's task is called "The Cell," and it involves them sitting at a table with one bowl full of maggots and another full of really big cockroaches. If Adam and Kina want their keys, they have to eat the maggots and roaches. This is mentally and physically one of the hardest things Kina and Adam have ever had to do, and so it's not surprising that they start to panic.
Kina says she would rather be sent to The Pit than eat a bowl of maggots, but with the rest of the cast supporting her she makes the decision to just close her eyes, plug her nose and get them down as fast as possible. Adam's been mostly quiet this whole time but you can see the fear in his eyes.
Regardless, as Susie and Tori start to feed Kina the maggots, Adam throws one cockroach after another into his mouth, chews as fast as he can, swallows and takes a large chug of water.
In no time their bowls are empty and all that's left to do is not throw up. It looks bad for moment as Adam seems close to losing it, which basically means that Kina will follow, but he keeps it together and they come away with the last two keys.
With all their keys in hand, the team steps outside to find six locked cases and a white board. Drew explains that inside each case is a letter from the alphabet. To complete their mission and bank the money the Roadies have to rearrange the six letters into six words in just two minutes. The Roadies unlock their cases, pull out their letters and the clock starts. The letters they are given are I N R E N W.
When the clock runs out the gang has six words up on the board and they feel pretty confident. On the board are the words: winner, wine, when, rine, wren and wire. Adam, Derek, Susie, David, Kina and Tori all look over at Drew expecting him to declare them winners, but instead Drew asks about the H on the board. There's a moment of confusion before it hits everyone. During the madness of people shouting out words, "when" was put up on the board even though there was no H for the group to use. The Roadies lost their mission, which hurts even more than usual because there were 20 thousand clams on the line.
The next day the Roadies are gathered in the RV to talk about who is going to The Pit. Although Susie admits that the word "when" was her fault, but everyone is ignoring that fact. Adam then apologizes to David because he's going to vote for him. This sends David into an emotional tailspin and the tears begin to flow. But David says he's not crying out of anger; he has just reached his breaking point.
David says that he loves everyone on the RV and he's shocked that they have made it three months without losing their minds. David then asks to be sent into The Pit because he feels that if he's meant to be on the RV he'll win yet again. If he loses in The Pit, though, then he believes it wasn't meant to be and says he's OK with that because he still had the time of his life. Derek's not sure if this is an act or if David is being sincere. Susie remains very quiet the whole time and eventually expresses her guilt about the decision because she knows David doesn't deserve to go into The Pit, especially after this mission. But Susie says she'll get over her guilt when she gets her check in the mail. David dons his superhero cape once again and exits the RV on another trip to The Pit.
