The Roadies get down and dirty on the farm and David clashes with his teammates.
A few weeks ago, we saw an intense Pit Battle between Angel and Kina where they competed in the game, "Scorpion." This week we have a treat for the viewers as Dan and Derek will battle in the Pit in another match of the same challenge. If you missed Kina's and Angel's Pit face off, the rules to Scorpion are rather simple. Each player has nine tags attached to their back, and then both players are attached to each other by their right wrist. The goal is to remove the tags from their opponent's back; the first to remove all nine tags is crowned the winner.
Dan and Derek take their positions in the middle of the Pit, Roadmaster Drew Bell blows his whistle and the game is on. Both Derek and Dan are extremely athletic and this game has both of them frantically reaching around each other's backs as fast and as hard as they can. As the seconds tick on Derek takes the lead, removing six tags in the time that Dan can remove four of Derek's. But in the middle of all the heated action, Dan accidentally jabs Derek in the eye with a finger. Derek collapses on his knees in pain and the game is paused as they are separated to allow Derek some time to recover ... and hopefully return to the battle.
Here at Road Rules, safety always comes first. So we need to take a quick break while we send an intern out to pick up some eye protection for our fierce competitors.
OK, we're back. Derek was able to pull himself together enough during the break to continue, so both he and Dan are back in the middle of the pit, attached at the wrists, and now sporting stylish swim goggles. Before the eye-gouging incident, Dan had three tags left and Derek had five but the rules of the Pit state that Dan's unnecessary roughness means Derek can remove one tag from Dan's back.
Drew blows the whistle and the boys go at it again, with Dan knowing he has to catch up. Dan goes in and starts grappling at Derek's back to get anything that he can reach. But Dan's effort isn't good enough and Derek removes Dan's last two tags in a flash. With another intense and shocking battle of Scorpion finished, Derek and Dan join Drew by the side of The Pit. Derek is on Drew's right side, indicating he will soon take a seat on the RV; Dan is on Drew's left, defeated and headed to the Pit Crew.
Fast-forward a bit and we find Derek is on the side of the road awaiting his pick-up. Wanting to make his own special entrance, Derek decides to sport a mullet wig to surprise his new RV mates. But the other Roadies have their own plans. Inspired by David's bravado the previous week (remember when he dropped his pants?), the gang decides to lock the door and not let Derek on until he gets naked! When the RV pulls up, David sticks his head out the window and lets Derek know the deal. Derek looks hesitant for a moment, but he's a good sport and takes no time stripping down to nothing but a backpack to cover his naughty bits.
With the initiation over, the RV door is opened and Derek is welcomed on as an official Road Ruler. And once Derek reclaims his clothes, the team is off for another adventure.
For this week's challenge the Roadies are at a farm, donning boots, overalls and bandanas to learn how to do some old fashioned hard work. The gang spends their first day on the farm shoveling mud and manure and learning how to drive a tractor. Some of the cast, like David, are quite literally as happy as a pig in ... well, you know what. But some of the others, say Kina, find their circumstances unacceptable. To Kina, how is tramping around in waist deep mud and manure a good time?
After their training, the Roadies go out for a relaxing dinner as a team. Most of the group are laughing and having a good time, but David is visibly distant and not in his normal, easy-going, fun-loving mood. David lets it be known that Adam has informed him of the group's plan to vote him into The Pit the next day, regardless of what happens in the mission. David, who feels he's an asset to the team, believes that he has done nothing to warrant being sent into The Pit without a good reason. The rest of the Roadies retort saying that although he performed well in the one mission he was in, he still hasn't proven himself by going into The Pit as a Roadie as the rest of them have. David still disagrees with their reasoning and states that if it's going to be him or Derek or whoever the newbie is going into The Pit every week, then he's not going to earn one more dime for the rest of group. The conversation ends there and everyone is left to see what will happen at their mission tomorrow.
In the morning the Roadies are back in their boots and overalls at the farm to meet up with Drew Bell and find out what the mission has in store. This week's mission is called "Tractor Pull" and it requires that the Roadies remove 13 large and heavy pieces of farm equipment from a mud and manure filled field. The Roadies will have 30 minutes to use the tractor and a chain to drag all 13 pieces out of the field. If they can finish within the time limits they will successfully complete the mission and bank another 10 G's towards the handsome reward.
A blow of the horn starts the clock and the Roadies go at it. David, Derek and Kina take the lead by running into the mud and manure field with the chain to get it around the first piece of equipment, a giant metal pipe, while Tori mans the tractor. The first piece gets dragged out of the field with no problems at all and the gang goes in for the next one. Soon enough, the Roadies have 12 of the 13 pieces removed, and that's when disaster strikes!
With only five minutes left, Susie makes a couple mistakes while driving and the chain gets wrapped around the tractor's axle. David is the first to notice, and screams "Stop!" before rushing over to untangle the chain. That accomplished, the team gets the tractor in position and attaches the chain to the last piece, a tractor tire. Their hard work and David's quick action pays off as they haul the tire out of the field with a minute to spare on the clock! The Roadies have won!
Another mission down and another $10,000 in the bank is always a good day for Road Rules, but the team must send one of their own into The Pit. At deliberation David's fears are confirmed and he is voted in. David is obviously upset. No one in their right mind really wants to go into the Pit, but he isn't too angry at the rest of the team. The other Roadies, save for Derek who will most likely suffer the same fate next week, understand how David is feeling and assure him that, if he comes back, he will be back as a proven Roadie and will then become part of the volunteering rotation that the others have been mostly following.
