This week's Road Rules: 2007 starts where last week ended ... in the Pit.
Since Tori's name was drawn out of the hat during last week's deliberation the RV gang left her on the side of the road, bound for the Pit to face-off against the Pit-Crew's Veronica, voted into the Elimination Battle by viewers on roadrules.mtv.com. However, this week's Pit would be different than their last meeting, which saw Tori take a seat on the RV and Veronica sent back to the Pit Crew.
For this battle Tori and Veronica have to solve a puzzle, making this wholly a mental competition compared to the physical task in their last challenge. But the result is the same as Tori again comes out victorious by finishing her puzzle just slightly before Veronica.
The Roadies on the RV are more than happy to have Tori back on board to keep the positive and successful dynamic going. The team makes a quick stop for some lunch and sign autographs for Road Rules fans, and then it is off to Joshua Tree National Park for their next mission.
When the Roadies arrive they find two bags full of rocks. Why? Because this week's challenge has the team rock climbing ... while carrying rocks! They have to divide 300 pounds of rocks, climb a massive rock-wall in male/female teams of two, drop off their rocks and then repel back down. If the Road Rulers can get it done in less than two hours, they'll put another $10,000 into their bank.
Adam and Susie are the first to go. Immediately the mission has everyone worried as Adam, the Roadie with the most climbing experience, starts to show signs of struggle at the bottom. The rest of the team knows that if Adam is having this much trouble, it's not going to be easy for them.
Eventually Adam and Susie find their pace and make it up and down in a reasonable amount of time. Shane and Kina are next and also make a slow start, with Kina struggling to make even just the first two steps up the wall. But, with a little perseverance and focus, both make it to the top, drop off their rocks and repel down.
Lovebirds Dan and Tori go last, knowing full well that a win or loss is up to them. Dan, although being a marine and confident in his physical prowess, has never rock climbed before and is worried that he might not only lose the mission for the team, but be sent into the Pit for doing so. Dan attacks the wall but only to make it a little more than half-way before getting stuck. With time running out and Tori waiting above, Dan gets moving again with some grunts of frustration. After he reaches the summit, they drop their rocks and quickly repel to the bottom, hoping that they have made it in time.
There are a few moments of panic as the final times are calculated, but relief comes as they find out they accomplished the mission, with only a little more than five minutes to spare. That puts another 10k into the bank, bringing the balance up to $40,000.
After the congratulations, it's back to the RV for the dreaded deliberation. After fighting two weeks ago and the tears last week, the whole team sits down to think about the situation logically. They decide that if the roadrules.mtv.com voting trend continues, their choice would likely face either Veronica or Monte. But instead of drawing names from a hat again, Kina volunteers to go into the Pit, confident that she can beat Veronica or anyone else from the Pit Crew.
