  1. A southerner from Chesterfield, Virginia, 21-year-old Nathan was raised by his father from the age of 5 to 15. When his father died of cancer, Nathan moved in with his grandmother and stepped up to adult challenges while still in high school. After a separation of 15 years, Nathan recently was reacquainted with his mother and met his 9-year-old half brother. Like David, Nathan is also a fourth-year student at the Virginia Military Institute. In fact, they lived together in Prague during a semester abroad.
