About Episode

  1. Ryan Sheckler has wanted to be in a serious relationship for a long time. But now that he has a girlfriend, Ryan's realizing how much effort it takes to maintain a relationship. Ever since Ryan and Kayla became an official couple, things have been moving too fast for Ryan, especially since Kayla seems seriously smitten. Could this spell trouble in paradise?

While his relationship with Kayla plows forward, Ryan decides to focus on other things -- like buying some new digs and throwing a party for his 18th birthday. Looking for guidance, he goes to see his agent, Steve. But Steve brushes Ryan off when it comes to talking about a big birthday bash, saying Ryan should just keep it mellow.

Meanwhile, Kayla stresses Ryan out when she wants to meet his dad, Randy. It's a big step, but Ryan decides to get everyone together for lunch. While eating, Randy grills Kayla about her plans for the future and Ryan reveals that he's feeling overwhelmed by everything that's going on in his life.

Later, Ryan lets off some steam by skating with Tony, Casey and Mitch. While chilling with his friends, he admits he doesn't know what to do about Kayla. He feels like he's not putting the same amount of effort into their relationship as she is, and it's not fair to her. Kayla seems to be the girl of his dreams, yet he's just not happy.

Although Ryan's having a hard time handling his relationship with Kayla, he needs to make sure he has a handle on his career. Ryan's approaching birthday means more than a party -- he's officially becoming an adult, which means he has to take on more responsibility. Steve tells Ryan that one of those responsibilities requires him to head to an Oakley photo shoot. But when Ryan gets there, he walks right into a huge surprise party instead!

Ryan's party is packed with family, friends ... and a hawkeyed Kayla. As he walks into the room, he gets sucked into the crowd and winds up onstage with Lil Jon, who's there to get the party started. Soon the house is rockin' when Three 6 Mafia takes the stage, and Ryan makes his way through the crowd chatting everyone up as Kayla watches from afar. Feeling left out, Kayla makes a beeline for the door, leaving Ryan feeling frustrated.

The next day, Ryan grabs a bite with his friends, hoping they can shed some light on what went down the night before. When he learns that Kayla was upset that he wasn't talking to her enough, he admits he felt like she was watching him like a hawk the whole night.

Feeling like he's losing his independence, Ryan realizes that he can't be the boyfriend that Kayla needs. He decides it's time to talk to her about the situation. But as he's heading out the door, Ryan gets weighed down by guilt when his mom, Gretchen, tells him that Kayla played a huge part in planning the surprise party.

Ryan realizes that all he's been thinking about is Kayla, when he should really be focusing on his career. Turning 18 means he's officially an adult, so he's got to start acting like one. As much as it hurts, Ryan tells Kayla that he just can't be the boyfriend she deserves and they're better off ending things. After he and Kayla share a tearful goodbye, Ryan admits that his life just isn't suitable for a girlfriend right now.
