About Hilary Duff: This is Now

  1. Days away from releasing Dignity, her most ambitious and personal album to date, Hilary Duff is living, sweating proof that superstardom isn't all fun and games. The rigors of show business become apparent when an exhausted Duff has to turn down invites to glamorous parties in order to make time for grueling dance rehearsals (one more time!), endless photo shoots and finding out that buying 35 new outfits in one day isn't nearly as fun as it sounds. And she's ready to give you an exclusive look at it all on Hilary Duff: This is Now.

With a team of professionals managing her every move, Duff complains that sometimes it feels like her life is spinning out of her control.
That's why the making of Dignity has been so crucial to her sanity -- it's a chance for her to retake the reigns by making drastic creative departures to reveal the real Hilary Duff.

So who is she? Well, according to the bridge of first single, "With Love," she is, as suspected, incredibly busy. Look:

"Just slow me down, slow me down
Tell me tomorrow everything will be around Just slow me down, slow me down You're the one who keeps me on the ground"

Written before her public break-up, the lyrics also imply that when she parted ways with Good Charlotte's Joel Madden, she lost one of the great stabilizers in her life. But Duff's no slouch. Quick on the rebound, she shows her graceful tenacity by delving adventurously into bold new sounds. Leaving her teeny-pop sound in the dust in favor of edgy dance beats and electronic loops, this tough mama is no victim of heartbreak.

Continuing the theme of grace under pressure, Duff also takes a stand against show business's shallow standards, singing in Dignity's title track, "Where's your dignity? I think you lost it in the Hollywood Hills." Whether or not she's commenting directly on Madden's new girlfriend, Nicole Richie, we may never know. After all, a dignified girl doesn't throw stones. At least not in broad daylight. What she does is walk the path that leads to her dreams, head held high, fists in pockets and never a hair out of place.

Find out how she keeps it all together, only on MTV's Hilary Duff: This Is Now.
