Full Biography

  1. Amanda was born Sept. 13, 1983, unexpectedly at her family's home in Springfield, Penn. Despite being born with Down's Syndrome, Amanda has never been treated any differently in her family. Her mother, Marian, enrolled Amanda in all the same West Chester schools as her other kids and fought to make Amanda the first student with Down's Syndrome to be included there. Amanda is very active in Special Olympics, competing in floor hockey, volleyball and swimming. She was the first recipient of the Special Olympics award from the Pennsylvania Athletes Hall of Fame in 2004 and has 250 medals in total. She has been
    a member of her church choir, the local bowling and soccer leagues. For 15 years, Amanda has danced at both the Kicks School of Dance and Cathie Collins School of Dance. She currently works taking tickets at the nearby AMC theater.
