Missy's mother, Marian, was born in North Philadelphia, where she lived until she was 17, when her family moved to New Town Square in Delaware County. She met her husband, David, who lived in the apartment downstairs as they moved in and it was love at first sight.
Engaged a year later, the couple married in 1974. She worked as a mortgage banker at Benjamin Franklin Federal Savings and Loan until a month before she gave birth to Melissa (Missy) in 1980 as a tornado ripped through
the area.
The full-time mom welcomed her second daughter, Amanda, unexpectedly in 1983 at the family's Upper Darby home. Her third daughter, Jessica, was born during a 1987 snowstorm. When her doctor admitted that he hoped Marian was done having kids, she said, "Yes."
Since discovering Amanda was born with Downs Syndrome, Marian has been a vocal advocate for the mentally disabled. Presently on the board of three organizations, Marian is passionate about making sure that people with disabilities
are treated equally.
Marian lost her husband in January 2001 to a sudden heart
attack.
Among her various pursuits, Marian has been in a bowling league for 18
years, loves dancing with her girlfriends as many as four nights a week, and taking
care of four cats and a dog.
Marian met Bam when he was 13-years-old and had come
over to play pool at her house. She couldn't figure out why he was wearing his hat
and sunglasses inside. She feels that this is a very exciting time for Missy. She
loves that Bam takes her traveling and shows her things she's never seen before. She
couldn't be happier for her.
