April and Phil Margera were both born and raised where Bam lives now, in the West Chester area of Pennsylvannia. But they attended separate high schools, and didn't meet until 1973. Phil was hired at the movie theater April was working in. Although April immediately liked Phil, nothing happened because the guy April told to tell Phil actually had a crush on April, and led April to believe Phil wasn't interested. The two finally got together in the spring of 1974, when April was a senior and Phil was a junior known for playing football, baseball, and bench pressing 350 pounds. On christmas eve of that same year Phil proposed (after a brief hassle with losing the ring underneath the seat of his car for ten minutes.) They were married in March of 1976, not yet out of their teens, and in two years April gave birth to Bam's brother Jess. Bam was born 13 months later, and the Margera family was complete. As Bam and Jess grew up April and Phil always made time for their different activities, and many skaters remember spending the night at their house after a long day of skating with Bam. April and Phil were even the original cameramen for Bam's skating when he was 12 and 13. But April called a halt to that when she had her head bashed open by a flying skateboard.
When Bam started filming his own stuff with CKY, Jackass, and Viva La Bam, April and Phil were always there and ready to help out their son, even if it meant having holes cut in their floor, their cars getting ruined , and a whole lot of irritation. In all the flurry April somehow found time to publish a cookbook last fall, and now she's working on another one when she gets a spare moment from wedding planning.
Both April and Phil love Missy-- They say she's a great person and they think there's a chance she might quiet Bam down. It's a slim chance, they know, but it's better than nothing.
