As if the Hoover Bucs weren't stressed enough with the State Championship ahead, new tension arises with rumors of Coach Propst leaving the team. Although there's always been speculation, Propst confirms that he'd be ready to move to the next level if it was the right decision for his family. But, for now, he wants to keep his players focused on the game.
With the Championship game approaching, all of the players are looking back on their football careers and getting ready for the gridiron battle ahead. DeJohn, Mark and Charlie worry that things will never be the same again if they play football on the next level -- they'll be transitioning from superstars to scrubs. Although the trio worries about their upcoming opponent, Brandon and Ross say they're not nervous for the Pratville team. In fact, Ross even jokes that it's just like any other game, only they get a ring at the buzzer.
Painting up for their last game of the season in the locker room, Propst tells his players to leave everything on the field and drive for a fifth straight championship win. But, as the game begins, Pratville takes an early lead with quick touchdowns and Hoover can't recover.
Ending the half with a fourteen point deficit, Propst tells the boys to turn up the intensity level and start playing Buc football. Ross answers his call, coming out of the locker room and making a long run all the way to the five yard line. But, right before he can make it in the end zone, the quarterback gets slammed upside the head with a tackle, getting knocked to the ground.
While he recovers, the backup QB takes the field and seals the touchdown. Not wanting to miss his last game, Ross straps on his helmet and connects with Charlie on the field. But, the senior star is still shaken by the hit, and throws the ball away to Pratville. From there on out, Hoover hits a downward spiral, with a score of 35-21. Ross tells his team not to quit, but the Bucs can't pull through with a win.
Heading off the field, all of the fans and players shed tears over the loss. Ross doesn't want to go out a loser, but Coach Propst assures the boys that they've had a great run and the program will bounce back. In a press conference, Propst can't confirm whether or not this will stand as his last game as Hoover's head coach.
One week after the loss, the Bucs are moving on and making plans for their futures. Mark and Brittany head on a hunting trip where the two discuss their thoughts on college. But, although the couple's been stressing over the uncertainties, Mark later erases Brittany's fears when he shares news that he'll be joining her at Alabama.
Charlie's relieved that the season's over, feeling a release from the pressure, and DeJohn and Ross watch old Pee Wee football tapes from their childhood. While Ross gets ready for the baseball season ahead, Mark starts training for boxing, and Byron and Brandon sign on for full scholarships to Clemson for football.
Although the team wasn't able to pull off the State Championship, Props still applauds his players on Senior Night, saying how proud he is of his team. And, despite speculation, Propst decides to stick it out at Hoover High for another year.
