As the Bucs rebuild after their first loss and adjust to a new crop of players, there are bound to be bumps in the road.
Brandon is a Hoover transfer on the team hoping to bounce back from a knee injury. Since taking a rough spill during the John Curtis game, he's come out of surgery and faced physical therapy in an effort to get back in time for the Vestavia game. But, even though the new senior receiver is given the green light to play, he and Ross still need to iron out their timing on the field.
At practice, Coach Propst warns his players that they need to get their act in gear come Friday -- there's nothing worse than losing a rivalry game on enemy territory. The game ahead will prove to be a rough one, especially since Vestavia is known for low blows and illegal moves.
Everyone in Hoover is fired up about the rivalry battle on the horizon. At cheerleading practice, the girls' coach pumps them up for an intense fight. Over dinner, Charlie explains to his dad that losing is not an option.
As the bus rolls into Vestavia, the Bucs are welcomed with an angry crowd and sub-par facilities. Forced to use a garage as a locker room, Hoover takes time to suit up and get heated. Propst warns his players that their pride is at stake, and they only have 48 minutes to rise to the challenge. The Rebels are coming into the game undefeated, and the Bucs have a reputation to uphold.
Tension runs high at kickoff, where the Vestavia Rebels are already off to a quick start. Vestavia wastes no time, cutting Dejohn at the knees with every hit. Propst raises hell at the illegal moves, but the refs turn a deaf ear on his pleas. By the half, Vestavia is up 17-14, and the Bucs are all hurting in the locker room.
With a pep talk from Propst, they're back on the field and ready to take control of the game. But, their efforts fall hard when Vestavia sacks Ross and Vestavia racks in another seven points. With a 24-14, the Hoover offense needs to kick it up a notch, and Ross is ready to answer with a touchdown. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Bucs are down three, Vestavia's ball. A clutch fumble brings a Hoover possession, and Ross is able to work his magic by connecting a pass to Charlie. With seconds left, the Bucs earn another touchdown, winning the game 28-24. Playing their hearts out, the Bucs knock in a hard fought win.
