MTV's 16 and Pregnant › Season 2 › Ep. 217

Kayla is a teenage southern belle who loves to ride horses and compete in beauty pageants. She and her boyfriend J.R. have been dating for 6 months and she's sure he's "the one." J.R. is already out of high school and Kayla has plans to go to nursing school once she graduates. Both Kayla and J.R.'s parents have been really supportive, which is good since Kayla is pregnant.

J.R. works as a mechanic and also lives at home, but he hopes that he and Kayla can get their own place soon. Although Kayla knows she loves J.R., she's scared to move away from her mom since she feels she'll need the help once the baby comes. J.R. wants Kayla to depend on him rather than her mother. Regardless, they head to a doctor's appointment with both of their mothers and find out they are going to have a baby boy. They decide to name him Rylan.

Concerned about the couple's living situation, J.R.'s parents offer his grandparents old home for he and Kayla to live in, but only if they get married. While J.R. is happy with this option, Kayla thinks it's all moving too quickly and is unsure of what she wants to do. Kayla and her mom, Bev, talk about her worries and what she's getting into. Bev wants Kayla to realize what responsibilities come with being a wife and mother.

During a photo shoot that her mom arranges, J.R. proposes to Kayla and she accepts. They now have to figure out how they will have money to move out, take care of the baby and pay for a wedding. However before they even begin to worry about it, Kayla starts having contractions five weeks early.

Worried about the baby, Kayla and her mom rush to the hospital where she finds out she's already 7cm dilated. Even though it's way too early, Rylan Jayce is born. Kayla is concerned because he was premature, but Rylan gets a clean bill of health.

Since Rylan came early, there was no time to work out the living situation so J.R. has to move in with Kayla's parents to help out. Bev agrees, as long as J.R. sleeps in the guest room, leaving Kayla getting up all night with Rylan. J.R. is anxious for them to have their own home, but Kayla is more hesitant than ever. She's scared to tackle motherhood alone without her mother close by.

Kayla finally heads back to school and realizes quickly she and her friends have grown apart. While they're all looking forward to prom, all Kayla wants to do is spend time with Rylan. She finally talks with J.R. about her feelings on rushing into marriage and living together. Kayla knows without the support of her parents, she never would have been able to handle having a baby at 17. She's decided to take things one step at a time and make sure she's making the best decisions for Rylan and herself.
