Seventeen year old Aubrey is from Prescott Valley, Arizona. Growing up with divorced parents, Aubrey lived mostly with her mom, Shelley, who moved them around a lot. Aubrey found it hard to keep up with school, so she dropped out. Things started to look up for her when she met Brandon and they started dating. They moved in together against her mother's wishes... and it was great, until Brandon lost his job. So the two moved in with her grandmother, since no one else would take them in, while they planned for Aubrey to work on her GED and Brandon to look for a job. They're now engaged and trying to get their lives on track, which is a good because Aubrey is pregnant.
Without jobs, Brandon and Aubrey are finding themselves further in debt, but they're moving forward with wedding plans anyway. Aubrey's grandmother is helping them out by giving them a place to stay, but she's ill and wants the couple to find their own place before the baby comes. With the wedding only days away, Aubrey and Brandon find out they're having a baby boy and decide to name him Austin. While Aubrey's family is not thrilled with the couple getting married so young, both Aubrey and Brandon want to be wed before Austin arrives. Aubrey's mother and aunt both decide not to attend the wedding and in the end, only her grandmother and a couple friends witness the outdoor nuptials.
Brandon finally gets a job as a mall security guard and the couple is very excited. However, this leaves Aubrey home alone a lot more and she feels like she's missing out with her friends all at school. Her friends wonder how she'll manage college if she's already having trouble with her GED and the baby's not even here yet. Talking with her friends motivates Aubrey to start studying and she takes a practice GED test. Unfortunately she fails the test and since they have no money for a tutor, Aubrey's outlook on school is worse than before.
Aubrey decides she needs to get a job as well, realizing that it'll take two incomes to support their son. However, when she mentions it to Brandon, he's against the idea. He wants her to stay home and raise Austin while he works. Aubrey is past her due date, so her doctor decides to induce her. After 30 hours of labor, Austin finally arrives. Although the family is excited to see the newborn, Grandma still wants them find their own place soon.
After a couple months of Brandon working and Aubrey staying home to take care of Austin, Grandma again tells them they need to find their own place. Aubrey reminds Brandon she wants to contribute and against his wishes, begins looking for a job. She gets a job at a local pizza place and Brandon decides he's okay with it since they can work opposite shifts and not have to put Austin in daycare.
Now that Austin is here and they both have jobs, they are working hard to get out of Grandma's house. They feel their relationship has gotten stronger since they've been forced to work through some issues. While Aubrey wishes she had stayed in school, she plans to start working hard to get her GED so she can go to college and help support their son.
