Fall is here which means puffy jackets, exams and, more importantly, the Woodie Awards! mtvU will be hosting the Solo cup-brandishing event for the sixth year in a row at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City.

That's right. In between cramming for midterms, passionate music fans will be crammed in the venue for the ultimate live event to watch incredible musical performances, special appearances and winners take their place in Woodie history.

The Woodies are known for rocking the house with innovative, and unexpected performances, and this year is no exception. Passion Pit will grace our stage for the first time to deliver an electric rendition of "The Reeling." And hip-hop duo Clipse will team up with Cam'ron to perform "Popular Demand." Just add these acts to the incredible, growing list of performances, which already includes Death Cab For Cutie and The Dead Weather, and you have a show that's not-to-be-missed. Not to mention indie pop duo Matt & Kim will perform their 2009 VMA "Breakthrough Video" winner "Lessons Learned" for the mtvU crowd. As if it couldn't get any better -- keeping you pumped in between unforgettable sets is DJ/producer Diplo from Major Lazer who will be spinning the biggest new and current jams throughout the night.

mtvU fans? Check. Amazing performers? Covered. Winners? That's up to you. This year, students and music fans from all over the country voted for their favorite artists to win an mtvU Woodie. Nominees include Wale, Death Cab For Cutie, Kings of Leon, MGMT, Matt & Kim, Asher Roth, Drake, Kid Cudi, Silversun Pickups and 30H!3. And stars like Pete Wentz, David Cross, Pac Div, Zooey Deschanel, Janelle Monae, 3OH!3, P.O.S., Amber Tamblyn, and Mary-Louise Parker will be there to dole out the prizes throughout the night.

So prepare for the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards to give you the base-thumping, melody-driven, and riff-ripping entertainment you’ve been waiting for all semester. If there’s a better stress reliever than watching us give out Woodies to the artists that cycle through your playlists all year long, we haven’t seen it yet. So rinse out those Solo cups, and we’ll see you in December.
