This year, the MTV Movie Awards honors multi-talented comedic chameleon Ben Stiller with the prestigious MTV Generation Award, putting him among such elite entertainers as Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Jim Carrey and his idol, Tom Cruise. As the star of such varied cult phenomena as "Reality Bites," "There's Something About Mary," "Zoolander" and "Meet The Parents," this little Focker has more than earned the honor.
What does Stiller say about receiving the night's biggest award? "I am honored," he said. "I was given my first show at MTV, and also cancelled for the first time. I also was secretly having an affair with JJ Jackson, so it brings back pleasant memories." Well said.
Considering that Stiller is the offspring of top-notch comics Jerry Stiller ("Seinfeld") and Anne Meara ("The King Of Queens"), you could argue that he was born to perform. It's in his blood. But not even Stiller himself could have anticipated the superstardom that he's achieved. And who could have guessed that he'd get so far, just by repeatedly humiliating himself?!
Of course Stiller does much more than take a good fall. After years of dominating the mainstream media (or at least dorm room DVD collections), his job title still remains undefined. He has worked with everyone from Cameron Diaz to Robert Deniro, and not just as an actor. He has produced, written or directed many of his films. He wore all four hats simultaneously on last summer's box-office hit, "Tropic Thunder." Talk about a quadruple-threat!
On the other side of the camera, the characters Stiller plays are as outlandish as they are familiar. He plays loveable, oafish losers with the same effortless grace as he does narcissistic jerks. Even when he's not carrying a movie, Stiller has developed a reputation for delivering some of the best one-liners of the past 20 years (Como estan, bitches?!). Hes a bit-part master.
The man can make classics with his eyes closed. And he doesnt even have to show his actual face to do it! Whether he's animated in "Madagascar" or seeing inanimate objects come to life in his latest flick "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," Stiller delivers on the big screen like no one else can. And he looks really, really, ridiculously handsome doing it, too, doesn't he? Yup.
Get psyched to watch one of the most creative orange-mocha-frappuccino-loving, kitty-milking, Favre-hating entertainers of our generation receive his honor, live on May 31. Hes one of the biggest stars of our time, and MTV is proud to announce it to the world. All that you can do is sit back, enjoy it and ask yourself
"Can! You! Deal! With! THAT?!?!?"
