1993 Movie Awards Summary
To add to the randomness, the night was punctuated by short, raunchy, sexed-up spoofs of the year's biggest movies, all performed by the cast of The Brady Bunch. If you're into feeling horrified, just try to imagine what they did for
Basic Instinct
. Also spoofed:
A Few Good Men
and
The Bodyguard
(during which sexual tension between Ma Brady and her sons reaches such a crescendo that they all make out). It could be argued that, with the airing of these dirty shorts, MTV launched the kitschy retro-craze that defined the rest of the '90s. Although, to be fair, it's also probably been argued plenty of times that Ben Franklin invented electricity.
Speaking of electricity, did we mention that Anthony Kiedis and Marisa Tomei made out? Totally did. And because plain old making out was kinda boring by 1993, they did it in torch helmets with three-foot flames dancing above their heads. Hot. Sparks also flew between Rosie Perez and Rosie O'Donnell, but they didn't make out. They made fun of each other, possibly inspiring a young Donald Trump to sharpen his knives for encounters down the road. Christian Slater, on the other hand, required no sharpening. The Untamed Heart star won Most Desirable Male, a title which he lived up to even when he was dropping the trophy on his foot.
But enough of this anecdotal nonsense. Let's do facts. The year's Best Movie winner was A Few Good Men , but Lethal Weapon 3 took home the most awards. Fresh from the set of Boomerang (and on his way to Beverly Hills Cop III ), Eddie Murphy hosted and, as you might imagine, he told about 10,000 jokes. So if you love jokes, definitely check out 1993.
