    Full Summary

Our hero Andrew W.K. is talking on the phone and he is very angry. He wants something scheduled for a half hour, and he's not taking no for an answer. The phone call is left unexplained as Andrew starts another episode of Your Friend, Andrew W.K..

This week's letter comes from Jaime, a Brooklyn College student. Ever since starting school he's been lonely. He's a very shy person and has trouble meeting people. Can Andrew help? Of course he can! Andrew can relate. "We all can feel weird and out of place. It's important to be able to go through those times and stay focused on what really matters."

At Jaime's house we find animals galore in every room. Jaime's mom is quite the decorator, and seems to have a penchant for Americana icons featuring oversized animals: pigs, rabbits, lambs and a live version, a huge pet dog. We hear from Jaime how it's hard for him to meet folks, since he's not very outgoing. He doesn't want to be Mr. Popular, he just wants to be comfortable. Andrew says that although he understands and he also points out "just because our life isn't easy, doesn't mean it's bad."

During the commercial we get a letter from Sarah in New Jersey who wants to know if Andrew could punk Ashton Kutcher. Andrew is not so sure and responds skeptically: "As much as I would like to say yes, I don't think you can. I don't think you could punk the punker."

Andrew advises Jaime to be upfront and honest with people he meets, and let them know he's not super outgoing. If you apologize to people, and let them know you're not being rude, just shy, there's no way they'll dismiss you. "Don't feel bad about being shy. Don't feel bad about what you naturally are." Andrew waxes poetic about modern society and how hard we try to make our lives simple, calm and quiet. But there will always be a reason to have moods. You owe it to yourself not to give into what brings you down.

In another letter during the break, Adam from Overland Park, Kansas asks "Dear Andrew--what is your favorite rock, paper, scissors move, and why?" Andrew explains that he usually likes to start out with rock, because it's the music he plays and it seems to be his natural inclination. Plus, it always wins.

Back to Jaime. Andrew asks him to make a list of all the people that diss him and everything that hurts him and to look at that list anytime he feels down. Andrew wants Jaime to prove to himself that what others say and think about him is wrong. No one can stop you from trying, and no one can take away the satisfaction of knowing you tried as hard as you can, Andrew says.

Sound advice from our hero and another successful week on the job. Jaime and Andrew spend the afternoon having fun in an arcade and Jaime says that Andrew has “just made my year.”

Drop Andrew W.K. a line, and he might be helping you out soon.

Jade Bell / Toms River, NJ

I'm black and I want to be in a punk band. Why doesn't my culture accept this?

Dear Jade, The spirit of punk is to push the limits and go against the grain. If some people think you can't be in a punk band just because you're black, then it actually just makes you even more punk! Please, please, please be in a band, and don't ever give up! We're all humans!!!

    Your friend, Andrew W.K.

    Melissa Williams / Chester, PA

I know you're not Dr. Phil but I need a work out partner that can motivate me to lose weight. I am currently attending Penn State and I am tired of hearing "you could be so pretty if you just loss 30 pounds." I want to see what everyone else sees. Please help me.

    Dear Melissa,

If you're tired of hearing people say "you could be pretty if you lost weight," then stop listening to them and hang out with some other people... but if you want to exercise for your own sake, I would look to see if Penn State has a gym for free. It's great to have a workout partner, but this is about you, and you should be the only partner you need. Now go do it!!!

    Your friend, Andrew W.K.
