Suggestions For TRL Today
Hey, my name is Andy, I'm 16, and I'm from Missouri. I began watching TRL in June 2003 and watched it daily until January 2006, when it was moved to an earlier time slot. I'm going to be brutally honest. The show had been going downhill for quite some time. Had it "always been about the fans," it wouldn't be in the position it is now. I was actually thinking the show was a lost cause, but the "vent" has given me some hope. My idea to make TRL better is essentially a renaissance - to go back to its roots (the music and the fans). My recommendations are as follows... 5 days-per-week, 50-day retirement rule, 90-minute shows, only TRL votes factor, less hiatuses, live - not taped, better time slot, new graphics and set. Thank you for your consideration. P.S. As cheesy as it may sound, TRL use to be the highlight of my day and was what I looked forward to after school. I would love for the show to turn things around and make it to its 10-year anniversary in September. - ATRL.net member and former fan, Andy R.
Hey Andy. First of all, thanks for sticking with us. At its core, TRL has always been about fans like you, and your continued passion is a big part of what keeps us going strong. In terms of your comments, you bring up some very interesting points. We do have a lot of change in store, but as is often the case in television, change doesn't happen overnight. As you know, TRL has been on the air for nearly a decade, and it wouldn't have been able to survive without reinventing itself through graphics, set design, and creative content. To that end, we are in the process of developing a new look for the studio, new graphics are currently being created, and we have lots of new segments that will debut in a matter of weeks. And while we know this doesn't answer all of your questions, you can rest assured that every concern being brought up by you and our other viewers is being tackled full-force by the TRL staff. We know we'll never be able to satisfy everyone, but we'll damn well try. So keep the faith, keep watching, and keep venting. -
Free Giveaways On The Show
I think that you guys should give out free stuff on the show! Even for the people at home! Maybe like a CD or t-shirts? Lol Im sure the fans will love free stuff! We all do! - Jarrett K.
Hey Jarrett, thanks for Venting! We give out free stuff all the time on the show, but youre right the home audience doesnt always get the same hookups as the in-studio audience. So how about this were going to look into a way to randomly select viewers at home to receive the same cool gifts that our studio audience receives everything from movies and video games to CDs and gadgets. Were not sure how its going to work yet, but well keep you posted. Thanks again for the suggestion. If were able to figure it out, you can tell everyone it was all your doing! -
More Stephen Coletti, Please!
Could we bring Stephen Coletti back as a host!! And could y'all try to bring back Bam Margera, cause rumor has it, he is working on a new show! Thank you for letting me vent!! Have a good day! - Olivia T.
Hey Olivia, thanks for writing to us! We love Stephen, too. Hes now acting on One Tree Hill and has an upcoming film on the way. If/when his schedule allows wed be happy to have him back. As for Bam, as soon as those rumors become truths well definitely have him on the show. Thanks Olivia! -
Recognize The Fans
My name is Randy and I am always on TRL. I have been on the show more than 45 times and have been recognized by so many people. I think there should be a segment called TRLs most dedicated fan. This segment would allow audience members who attend the show on a regular basis to get recognition for being a huge fan of TRL. - Randy W.
Hey Randy, maybe we should just dedicate an entire show in your honor! While youre waiting for that to happen you should check out our new Fan of the Week segment. We scour the audience to find the most passionate and energetic fans and we let them host an entire segment all by themselves. Next time youre in the studio, give us a shout! Thanks for writing in and dont hesitate to use The Vent again! -
The Exies
The Exies have toured with Motley Crue, Velvet Revolver, Breaking Benjamin, Buckcherry, Three Days Grace, etc. If TRL has always been about the fans then they'd play their new music video, "These Are the Days." - Christopher Y.
Hey Christopher, thanks for Venting! We played The Exies "These are the Days" on March 18th so I guess that means we're still all about the fans! Shoot us another email if you discover a new band you want us to check out! -
Tokio Hotel
I think you should have Tokio Hotel on your show.....They are a new upcoming band taking America by storm.....They would be a great guest appearance......I would pay to see them on your show!!! Please consider Tokio Hotel for TRL!!!!!!! - Kiila L.
Hey Kiila, thanks for the info! Weve been hearing a lot of buzz on Tokio Hotel for quite some time. Were expecting big things from them in '08 and we're doing our best to get them booked for next month. Check back in with trl.mtv.com for updates. -
Love For TRL
I just wanted to say that I love TRL. I watch it every day. Keep up the good work! - Dan H.
Hey Dan, thanks for the kind words. We love our fans, and please know were constantly working to make the show better every day. Feel free to pass along any suggestions you may have. -
Fewer Songs On The Countdown
I've noticed that over the years that the countdown videos have been tremendously reduced. I think that the videos should be lengthened so they all get the same air time. I wanna hear more then 20 seconds of my favorite song. - Stephanie E.
Hey Stephanie, thanks for Venting! It isnt now, nor has it ever been, our intention to play videos for short periods of time. Unfortunately, we only have an hour in which to fit everything from celebrity guests and giveaways to world premieres and performances. We play videos shorter so that we have time for all of the other things that fans of the show love. Well continue to do our best to extend the duration of your favorite videos whenever we can.
Welcome to The Vent, where we want your feedback about "Total Request Live!" Wanna recommend celebrity guests? Have ideas for new segments?
