HALO
Unlimited ammo, and smiling hippos - makes you wonder about those game programmer's, don't it?
First-Degree Murder: Once you get your pistol loaded at the very start of the game, head back to Captain Keyes, shoot him in the face, and see what happens. (Oh, and before you shoot, zoom in on the name tag on his uniform.)
Come on and take a free ride: At the very start of the level "343 Guilty Spark," don't leave your dropship-just keep tossing grenades. You can hitch a ride to a previously unaccessible part of the level. Same deal on "Assault on the Control Room," only this time, face the dropship and keep hitting X right as the Pelican drops you off to hop back aboard.
Unlimited ammo in Co-op mode: This is where some of the guys at halo.bungie.org started to scare us a little with their dedication. It's not the easiest trick, so we can't print it here, but head over to the site and click on "Tips 'n Tricks" and then "Keyes' Corner."
Thirsty grunt: At the very end of the last level, after the dropship coming to rescue you crashes, take the tunnel you see to the right. You'll find one last grunt with a message for ya.
Hippo shell: A very strange inside joke gone horribly awry. Sniper zoom in on a spent shotgun shell and you'll spot a friendly hippo smiling back.
Backwards Speak Elites: Yep. When you hear them growl "Wort! Wort! Wort!" it's actually someone saying "Go! Go! Go!" reversed. (For some reason "go" played backwards sounds more like "wort" than "og"-go figure.) Other things they say backwards are "roadkill," "nice one," and "stay low soldier!"
Play Online: It's not always very smooth, but if you have a PC, a broadband connection, a HUB, and $20, you can play Halo online today. Check out www.gamespyarcade.com and click on the Xbox Online link.
Hidden Messages: Throughout Halo you'll find different messages, such as Lead Artist Marcus Lehto's initials on the bottom of every Master Chief's boot. Or the room hidden in the final level with a designer's moniker (REX) on the wall in blood. This stuff's everywhere!
Tanks in the Base: It ain't easy, but it is possible. Back a Warthog up to the base wall on Blood Gulch (pointing away from the base) and floor it in reverse (look up on your ascent, then quickly look down).
Hidden Tune: Once you get outside in the "Assault on the Control Room" level and into that huge, snowy area, jump into a Banshee and ride it to the middle of the three ridges that bracket that enormous column at the top of the pyramid. Now park the Banshee and get out (watch your step!), walk all the way over to the rightmost edge, and stand still. You'll hear a track from the old Bungie game Myth.
