Global Warming and Carbon Offsets

Trippin' has offset all the pollution created from energy use in making the show, to ensure that it would not contribute to global warming. Whether we realize it or not, we all contribute to global warming. How? When we burn oil or coal-usually in our vehicles and power plants-we produce carbon dioxide (CO 2), the most prevalent greenhouse gas. As greenhouse gases build up faster than they can break down, more and more heat is trapped in the atmosphere and the earth's climate is altered. Both humans and wildlife are already experiencing the effects of climate change.
Carbon dioxide is not produced when electricity is generated using wind, solar, water, or other safe, clean sources. By avoiding pollution, "clean" generators get credit for the social (improved public health) and environmental (reduced pollution) attributes of their power, which is measured in tons avoided. Individuals or companies can buy those credits or "offsets" through carbon trading organizations, in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) or "green tags." When you purchase RECs or tags, you are offsetting the CO 2 released in the creation of the actual electricity you used.
