We found out we were being sent to Cancun to be on Cancun Capers six days before shooting started. We had gone to a casting call at our school, Arizona State University, for Spring Break Undercover. We didn't hear back and had given up hope, when finally we heard we had been picked for another show.
We were so excited, and there was tons to do. The most important task? Buying clothes and other stuff for our trip. Brandi, the clotheshorse, went out and bought a bunch of new clothes, including three new bikinis. I'm the mom of the group so I was very practical in my purchases, buying antiseptic, anti-diarrhea medication, sunblock, aspirin, bug spray, etc. Nisha, the most laid-back of our crew, bought and packed very little and--naturally--ended up borrowing a lot of clothes and toiletries on the trip.
 Brandi made sure to bring her video camera to record our adventures, and I brought 10 pairs of shoes--eight pairs of sandals and two pairs of sneakers. Imelda Marcos has nothing on me.
Before we knew it, it was Wednesday--time to fly down to Cancun. We needed passports or birth certificates to get into Mexico, but Nisha didn't have her birth certificate. Her parents over-nighted it from Alaska, and we had to get up at 6:30 a.m. (yikes!) to go to the DHL office to pick it up.
 From there we headed to the airport, and when we arrived at our gate, I suddenly felt as though someone was invading my space. I quickly turned around and was relieved to see it was my friend Chris. He introduced me to his friends, Courtney and Frank, and I introduced them to Nisha and Brandi. We soon found out that our Cancun Caper competition would be these ASU boys. We all boarded the same flight to Cancun.
Right from the start, we girls knew this Spring Break competition would be a blast; we and the boys all joked, laughed and amazed each other the entire flight (yep, fraternizing with the enemy). As we landed in Cancun, we went through customs and saw drivers holding MTV signs. We knew we had arrived!
