In his treatment for Die Trying's "Oxygen's Gone" video, director Michael Palmieri describes who 'Parkouristes' are and the role they play:
"To most people a city is just an accumulation of buildings and streets where human beings pitter-patter about in the mechanical routine of daily life. Work. Eat. Sleep. Drink. Drive. Walk. But to the increasingly growing phenomenon of emerging post-modern daredevils known as 'Parkouristes,' a city isnt just an arrangement of concrete and asphalt meant for optimum practical usage, it is one massive organic obstacle course where the chaotic arbitrary massing of urban sprawl is a constant playground of thrilling physical jeopardy. Le Parkour is a movement made up of youthful hipsters with impressive levels of athletic ability and death defying guts who think of their activities as a way of life - not a sport. They use every wall, ledge, rooftop, window, door and street as a contiguous acrobatic apparatus on which to try out moves that can only be described as a cross between Jackass and Cirque de Soleil."
