What are the qualities of a perfect mate in your opinion?
He has to be smart! It sounds shallow, but needless to say I like a good-looking guy and tall…he has to be sweet and I have to be able to have a conversation with him. I'm not a big fan of chest hair, that's a turn off. I like a sense of humor, [he] should be funny. Someone that makes me feel loved. And I hope he's here at Davis because I haven't found him yet!

Explain what some of your responsibilities are in your position.
I am assistant rush chair. I help recruit girls, my job is to help make them feel comfortable. For the first few nights of Rush Week I made sure all for the events were running smoothly, how the girls felt about the week, about Sigma and if they were interested in pledging and all that stuff.

How do you balance the time you spend involved in sorority activities and the time required to study for your classes?
This quarter it's been tough to prioritize school but in general I prioritize my schoolwork over Sigma because my grades are most important. When I have free time I work on Sigma. I'll have to budget my time more wisely next year because I'll have more to do.

What are some rules sisters have to abide by in order to be in/stay in the sorority?
If a girl does something and she wants to leave, it's up to her. We like our sisters to be truly dedicated and [someone] who wants to be there, to learn about the sisterhood and other sisters. We want a sister to be someone who's willing and caring and willing to devote their time to such a wonderful organization.

Will you stay involved in the sorority after you graduate and perhaps move away?
After I graduate I'll probably go back to Southern California. I'll definitely stay in contact with the sorority, but hopefully I'll be on a path to a career, so I'll stay in contact and see what's going on.

Do you consider your sisters closer friends to you than your non-sorority friends?
My best friends are not in the sorority--my two best girlfriends, one doesn't live here and my roommate is not in the sorority. Some of my best friends are in the sorority and I'm very fortunate to have met them because they light up my life. They're wonderful.

Have you ever been faced with a difficult decision when choosing people to rush or ultimately be initiated into the sorority? i.e. you decide you don't want them in…
Basically if I have a problem with another girl to the point where I feel extremely uncomfortable then I'll voice it, but if not, then I won't say anything because I don't want to affect anyone's opinions if they have good feelings towards her.

How has being in a sorority changed your life?
I never thought I would join a sorority, but it's changed my life for the better. It's allowed me to take on leadership positions, [I've] learned how to budget my time. I've met incredible people and [it] gave me the opportunity to have new experiences and be involved in things I would never do otherwise.
