What are the qualities of a perfect mate, in your opinion?
Somebody who I can relate to, somebody who supports my decisions and my perspectives, someone who stimulates me, someone who encourages me to want to be a better person. Someone who is kind, someone who has faith in religion, someone who is open-minded.
Now that it's almost over, what is the one positive thing you'll take away from this experience?
A better understanding of myself and of the person that I want to be. Just really a critical analysis of myself, and a strong bond with the pledge class, as well as the sisters in the sorority. I think I've been provided a new avenue to explore new issues that I might not be familiar with - like Jewish culture and Judaism in general.
Tell us about a one special relationship you formed with a sister or pledge.
That would have to be with Donna - she's a pledge. Donna and I have totally been there for each other and supported each other when pledging has been difficult, and I feel like I can count on her.
If you became the president of SAE-Pi, what would you do to change the way the sorority functions?
I would like there to be more organization in terms of communication amongst the sisters and the pledges. I hope that the lines of the communication would be more open and there wouldn't be misunderstandings or misconceptions without someone speaking out.
What was the experience like sharing one bathroom with five other people?
It was OK. Like I said, I come from a large family - I've had to share one bathroom for basically my entire life. I know it was hard for some people, but it's just the way I was raised. Sometimes it was difficult because I thought not everyone was being so considerate, but I was raised with limited resources, so I've learned to compromise and not be petty.
What was the best thing about pledging?
Pledging has enabled me to create bonds with strong women.
What was the worst thing about pledging?
The worst was that I didn't have a lot of privacy or time that I would have normally.
Did pledging affect the amount of time you had to study?
Yes, because I was required to go to so many events and so many extracurricular activities.
Describe the bonds that developed with your potential sisters during the pledging process, and how do you think they're different from developing friendships outside the sorority?
I think the bonds we developed within the pledge class were very special because we were all going through the process together, and we had to overcome a lot of obstacles within the pledge class itself - because we were divided from the start, with some girls being inside the MTV house and some not. But I think we've become all unified. We've shared some experiences that we haven't shared with other people. The fact is that Sigma has been something that has been important to us and has been a factor in our lives.
