Episode 17 Summary:
Three women and three men remain and will compete in the final Battle of the Sexes mission. The day before the final challenge, the guys are already talking strategy, while the girls put on mascara.
The teams have a final dinner together and everyone decides to dress up except Eric, who comes in the same black tank top he has worn for every mission. Each team member toasts the other team members. And just as Coral is about to sink her teeth into a nice T-bone, a bunch of guys dressed in all black come in and tear up the table and scream at the team members. "Looks like the mission is starting a little early," Dan observes.
It's after 10 p.m. and the men march the team members outside and welcome them to hell. Jonny informs them that the mission has started and they must stay in a dark room where they will be watched, until Jonny comes back to retrieve them. No one gets a good nights rest and at 6 a.m., they are woken up.
Their final mission is called Escape from Santa Fe. En route to the first part of the challenge, they learn they must jump out of a plane and retrieve a GPS receiver. They will use the GPS to navigate a three mile desert course to get them to their next rendezvous point. Then, they must collect three splinter cell keys. At the final rendezvous point, they will have to tackle a mental challenge. In addition to the $180,000, the winning team will win a trip around the world. "Good luck, be safe," Jonny advises.
Arissa can't believe the first thing she has to do is jump out of a frickin' plane, but she knows she must do it, so she does. Once both teams find their GPS, Jonny gives them a countdown and the final mission officially begins. Each team is on a different course, so they have no way of knowing how the other team is doing.
Both teams have to crawl under barbed wire to retrieve a splinter cell key. With each key they receive, they also get a dog tag. The girls are able to easily pull the second key off a rope that has many knots. The next key must be found in a haystack and the guys find it easily. As the guys arrive at the last part of the challenge, the girls are no where in site.
For the last challenge, the guys must play a memory game and match pairs of players from the Battle of the Sexes II. Once they have them matched, they have to put them in order by season.
When the girls find their last key, they hope and pray the guys have not finished yet. Meanwhile, the guys think they have finished the puzzle, but Jonny tells them it's wrong. The go back and fix it and learn they have won the mission. Elder statesmen Eric looks like he is about to faint. Upon their arrival at the western town, the girls are bummed to learn they have lost. Again. The final tally has the guys at 13 wins and the girls at three.
Coral sums the challenge: "If you get more than five women in a room at the same time, if it's not an orgy, it's a big fight." While Arissa feels like every hurdle she has overcome on this challenge has changed her life, Dan's like, dude we won 12 prizes and the final prize. We rule!
