MTV: How do you think the show will change your everyday life working for the Osbournes?
Melinda: Well, it happened so quickly. It's been filming for so long, and the people that have been in here filming, we've become quite good friends with, so I haven't really been thinking about what's going to happen. You know, sometimes someone will say, "I read on the Internet that there's a show coming about the Osbournes," and someone said they heard a radio announcer say, "We should get those kids in, they're really cool," and I said to Jack, "I'm sure that all sorts of things are going to come from this." Like some people might say, "Let's get Kelly on to do this" or something. Kelly is really, really talented, and I think Kelly will go on to be some host of something. Kelly has got so many good qualities, you know--like she's really funny and she has a way with words and she's gorgeous, so I'm sure someone will see Kelly and she'll do something. I guess the kids will get recognized all the time. It's funny, Ozzy had an "in-store" when the record came out, and I took Jack down as we parked the car, there were people screaming, "Jack! That's Ozzy's kid!" from the crowd and I was surprised! I didn't expect that. I was thinking, "Oh my God, he's going to get mugged," and here's little old me, I'm not going to be able to do anything about it. And Kelly could almost have had her own in-store; she was out front signing autographs. They were very sweet to everyone that came up.
MTV: What is the best thing about working for the Osbournes?
Melinda: They are just a very special family--I obviously don't have any family here living in America, [so] they're like my second family. My husband and I spent Christmas here with the Osbournes. Ozzy's great, I get along with him very well. He's extraordinarily funny and very kind and if I say "Oh dear, I have a headache," Ozzy is the first to jump up and say, "Oh, here, let me get you something." He's very kind to me. And Sharon has been amazingly kind to me, just really thoughtful. They're very supporting. Sometimes, of course, I have times where the kids absolutely hate my guts for things, but I can go to Sharon and say, "Do you think I did the right thing?" and she'll say, "Of course you did, don't be ridiculous. It's fine, everything's okay." I know where I stand with them all of the time, which is a very good thing, I think, in any work environment.
MTV: If Kelly and Jack break any rules, who punishes them, you or Ozzy and Sharon?
Melinda: Well, it just depends. Usually Sharon or Ozzy, but if I'm the only one here, then me. All I can say is "I'm not impressed, that's not good enough, I need to speak to your mum."
MTV: What type of music have you been listening to lately?
Melinda: Australian music that no one has ever really heard of here. I'm always getting friends to send me over CDs from Australia. I like an Australian band called Something for Kate, and I like a band from New Zealand called Shihad, and I've been listening to the new Ozzy record at home! My husband really loves that. I really like Mathew Sweet, he's American, and I like loads of British music--the Stereophonics, I love Robbie Williams, and all of those sorts of things.
