MTV.com: How does it feel to be nominated for Breakthrough Performance for this role?
Erika Christensen: [laughs] I'm so excited! I remember seeing someone win that award a few years ago, and [I knew] that that was the cool one, you know? I wanted that one, and so when I found out I was nominated, I was so excited. I still am very excited. I've never been to the awards before, you know?
MTV.com: Oh, you haven't? So are you nervous about it?
Erika: Umm…not really. I think as far as award shows go, this is kind of young, and funky and laid-back and cool.
MTV.com: Is there anybody who'll be there that you're excited to meet?
Erika: It's more of the whole atmosphere than one person, but it's always interesting to see what Jim Carrey does, right? [laughs] He gets the chance to go crazy.
MTV.com: What was it like working with Michael Douglas?
Erika: That guy is so cool. I really love him. He treated me like a peer, and that was great because I think it really helped my performance to have him not treat me like, "hey, you little rookie, let me teach you a thing or two." He just treated me like I belonged there, and I felt like I should just rise to the occasion.
MTV.com: You've got several more films coming up, right? Can you tell me about those and a little bit about your role in each of them?
Erika: The first thing that I did after Traffic is called Home Room. It is about two girls, me and Busy Philipps [Freaks and Geeks], and it's about a friendship that is formed in the wake of a tragedy that never would have been, except for the circumstances. And my character is a gunshot victim who is struggling with her sanity.
MTV.com: You have a couple more films that you've signed up to do, right?
Erika: Yeah, The Banger Sisters. I'm done with that one now….and that's with Goldie Hawn, Susan Sarandon, Geoffrey Rush and Eva Amurri. That was really fun. It's going to be a lighter movie. It's basically about finding out who you are and going with that, not trying to deny it or pretend you're something else…And I play Susan's daughter, and I'm just dealing with teenage stuff. Trying to figure out college, and boyfriends, and my future.
MTV.com: And you've signed up for a third film--Swimfan85?
Erika: I can assure you, that is a working title. [laughs] It's about what happens when you hang out with people you know you shouldn't be hanging out with. And I happen to be one of those people, so that's a good, fun role. Again, kind of juggling with sanity, I guess. [laughs]
MTV.com: And how will you celebrate if you win at the Movie Awards?
Erika: I'm going to be screaming. I'm going to screaming and jumping up and down, and then I'm gonna probably go out to Jerry's Deli or something, and stay up and party. And then I'll probably take my guy on a little tour--my popcorn, or--what is it?
MTV.com: I think it's a golden box of popcorn.
Erika: Yeah, I'll take my popcorn on tour…and show it to everybody.
MTV.com: So do you have a place picked out for it? On your mantle or do you have a special case?
Erika: I think I want to put it in my room on my bookcase, because it's cool enough that it looks good in my room. Like the SAG Award is in the living room because it looks kind of sophisticated, you know, but [the MTV Movie Award] is cool, so I want to have it with me in my room.
