Steven Tyler meets Joe Perry in Sunapee, NH, where Joe Perry is working at The Anchorage ice cream parlor.

Joe Perry invites Steven Tyler to a gig at a local club, The Barn, where Joe's Perry's band, The Jam Band, are performing.

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry decide to form a band together with other Jam Band member Tom Hamilton. Steven Tyler recruits Joey Kramer as drummer and the group moves into an apartment together in Boston, at 1325 Commonwealth Ave. Brad Whitford replaces guitarist Ray Tabano.

The group plays their first gig at Nipmuc Regional High School, performing material by John Lennon, The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds.

They coin their name, Aerosmith, at Joey Kramer's suggestion after considering The Hookers and Spike Jones.

"There were six of us in the group, some of us were living in the kitchen, eating brown rice and Campbell's soup. Those days, you know, when a quart of beer was heaven. It was hard times and it was really good. During lunch we would set up all our equipment outside of BU, in the main square and just started wailing. That's basically how we got billed. We never got much publicity in the magazines and newspapers."
