| Personal Quote | "Muhammad Ali had his job and he did it well. Who will take up the gauntlet in my generation? I can just answer for myself. I accept the calling." |
What do you plan to study in school and how will it help you achieve your mission?
My plan is to graduate from college in the spring and attend law school in the fall of next year. I know that as a woman of color, furthering my education will be quite an accomplishment. I eventually want to use my legal education as an avenue into politics to work in areas concerning minority affairs or education.
Where will you be in five years?
In five years, I will have graduated from law school. After that, the possibilities are endless. There's a world of opportunity out there and I plan to be a part of it.
Why should people care about social justice?
Watch the news for 30 minutes. It's apparent that the world is in a terrible state. People still do not have their basic rights and the "isms" -- racism, classism, sexism, elitism -- still haunt us. Why should we be concerned? Our concern for social justice is of vast importance because it affects all of us. The world will never change if we are complacent. Our concern for social justice is the first step to ridding our world of inequality and injustice. It's the impetus behind social reform and social change needed to make our world a better place.
How are you going to change the world?
I wish I could cure AIDS, but I can't. I wish I could convince wealthy nations to export their food surpluses to starving countries, but I'm not sure how. What I do know is that there are many opportunities to bring attention to these issues. So how do I change the world? I talk to people about these issues. And when they won't listen, I scream. And when they can't hear, I protest. And when they won't watch, I vote. I'll just continue to do my part because it's the only way I know how to make a difference.
