During the mill's operation, this room was a storage area for discarded machinery. Even then it was not often used. In 1974, a worker walked in to search for a machine part. Unfortunately no one saw him enter the room, as he was far from the busier parts of the mill. Because he was unaware that the door locked from the outside, he closed it behind him. He found himself locked in.
The worker was trapped in this storage room during the long weekend and the following vacation week. By the time others arrived, he was weak. He had been crying and scratching at the walls for many days. Workers have since considered this room haunted by the trapped man's ghost. Many mill employees reported hearing scratching on the walls when they came to retrieve a tool, and others have heard cries for help.
