Drainage Pit
This pit was used to collect run-off water that dripped off the machines used for gold processing. At the end of the day, the workers gathered to drain this pit into the nearby river.
One evening when the mine's production was at its peak, two workers, Esteban and Salvador, were draining the pit as they came to the end of their shift. It was very late, production had stopped for the day, and both men were exhausted. Working carelessly, Estebanlost his footing, slipped and fell to the bottom of the pit. He hit the ground with such force that he sustained a severe compound fracture on his right leg.
Salvador fled the site in search of help. Only steps away from the pit where he left his wounded co-worker, Salvador heard a bloodcurdling cry behind him. As Salvador looked back in the direction of the pit, a huge gust of wind hit him directly in the face. Salvador froze as he saw the shocking figure of the Nahaul flying out of the pit.
The following day, workers discovered Salvador near the drainage pit, shivering in the fetal position, repeatedly whispering the word, "Nahaul." Esteban was found dead in the bottom of the pit.
