Chac Tul was a particularly beloved warrior, and his prowess on the battlefield was legendary. His love of battle was matched only by his hatred for the Spanish colonial oppressors, and he constantly urged the other Mayans to rebel against them. It was through this main gate that streams of Mayan warriors rushed through during a deadly midnight attack on the hacienda. The brutal battle was sparked after the famed warrior chief Chac Tul had been murdered. Chac Tul, the martyred Mayan warrior god, is known to haunt this area.
