Before:
You may think it looks like it will be difficult now, but trust us, it's easy.

Padded Bench: Step 1
Cut enough batting to cover one piece of the plywood. Lay the batting down and place one piece of plywood on top (now known as board #1). Pulling batting tight, staple the edges to the board. At the corners, pull the batting to one side and then fold over (like you would do corners when wrapping a present) and staple.

Padded Bench: Step 2
Cut enough fabric to cover the top of the board and lay the fabric face down. Place board #1 on top of the fabric (with the batting facing down) and pull the fabric tight enough to remove wrinkles but not too tight. If your fabric has patterns, make sure it's straight. Staple the edges to the bottom of the board as you did with the batting.

Padded Bench: Step 3
Take the other piece of plywood (now known as board #2) and lay it out with the metal legs and flanges. Screw each leg into its flange and place one flange side down in each corner of the board, about an inch or an inch and a half in from the edges. Secure by screwing each flange into the board (Note: The screws are longer than the board, so be sure not to screw into the floor or table you're working on).

Padded Bench: Step 4
Flip board #2 over so it sits on its legs. Take the extra fabric and wrap it around the edges of board #2 to make the bench skirt, starting in the middle of one of the long sides of the board (this will be the back of the bench). It should drape about an inch from the floor. Once you have it in place, secure it by stapling the edges of the fabric to the top of the board.

Padded Bench: Step 5
Take your fringe or ribbon and secure to the top edge of board #2 starting at the same point you started the skirt. You can use the staple gun or a glue gun. Make sure the fringe or ribbon sits on the actual edge of the board, not on top of it. When you reach the point where you started, cut the fringe or ribbon about 2 inches longer than you need. Secure it to the board and then trim off any extra.

Padded Bench: Step 6
Flip board #2 over so that the legs are in the air and unscrew until the screws don't stick out of the board anymore (but don't remove completely).

After:
The Padded Bench is complete and it looks damn good.
