Thanks to divas like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, pop was still around when it came back full force in the late '90s, kicked off by those kid-friendly Spice Girls and the brothers Hanson. The Spice Girls created danceable tunes while spicing up the girl power, and even managed to cross over into acting with their movie Spice World. Meanwhile, no one could help bopping along with Hanson's infectious "MMMBop." Lilith Fair gave "girl power" a whole new meaning, as one of 1997's biggest concerts featured female pop stars Sarah McLachlan, Jewel and Sheryl Crow. Catchy tunes combined with cutesy characters quickly ruled MTV once more, leading to a slew of pop acts that hasn't stopped yet.
