GROWING BIG
Hip-hop began to grow much bigger than expected. There was LL Cool J and his female-sensation following and MC Hammer putting the "live" in live performances with his 30 - plus dancers.
A clique out in Queens known as the Juice Crew, consisting of Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Roxanne
Shante and more, were dominating East Coast music. Rap had taken hold and was growing not just up,
but out. Run-DMC continued to infiltrate the mainstream with its hit "Walk This Way," which fused
rap and rock by featuring Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Meanwhile, KRS-One made sure the
hip-hop culture had a conscience as well by starting the "Stop the Violence" movement. And artists let the world know that they don't just rap, they act, with stellar film performances such as Ice-T's in New Jack City.
