Let A Young Will Smith Charm You With His Rhymes In This Throwback Yo! MTV Raps Clip

The Fresh Prince brought his talents to MTV in 1992

When Will Smith steps on the 2016 MTV Movie Awards stage this Sunday to accept his Generation Award, he'll do it primarily as an actor (and as a noted planet-saver, of course). But before any of that, Smith wasn't Smith at all. He was the Fresh Prince, and his young charm and rap talent brought him all the way to the pilot episode of Yo! MTV Raps in 1988.

Three years later, he came back to shout out the show that helped him get off the ground. Hobbling around on crutches from an unrelated injury, Smith still exuded raw charisma as he flipped Naughty By Nature's hit "O.P.P" into a celebration of MTV and laid down a few choice rhymes. Besides being the most GIFable human being in existence (my own theory, but highly testable), Smith has always been a dude who could do it all.

If the clip above doesn't sell you on that, tune into the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and watch Smith get the praise he rightfully deserves.
