When the Newport Folk Festival canceled its second stage in Chicago, stranded artists made the best of things by performing an impromptu benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation at Schubas Tavern on Friday. Folk-rocker Peter Case and Texan punk-balladeer Alejandro Escovedo treated the afternoon crowd, mustered in 24 hours via word of mouth, to acoustic sets featuring new material, while Chicago rockers Wilco were moved to the main stage. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to terminally ill children.
