Mike Will Made It's phone is on fire. Every rapper is calling the Atlanta hitmaker, but after he dropped his Air Jordan-inspired "23" video with Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J, Mike Will got a ring from Michael Jordan himself.
"The first day the video came out, he saw the video and he liked it," Mike Will told MTV News on Thursday (October 3). "He was like, 'Man I like the video.' He was like, 'Thanks a lot.' "
The clip finds Mike Will and company taking over a high school gym, smoking in the bathroom and, of course, rocking some pretty sweet (and rare) Air Jordans basketball shoes. Mike Will partnered with Hannah Lux Davis to co-direct the video, which dropped last month.
Miley sports a bikini dress, made from authentic Jordan basketball jerseys and matching sneakers. In various scenes, she treats her feet to a pair of Wolf Grey Air Jordan 5s and Fire Red 3s. Juicy J shows off a pair of Grape Air Jordan 5s and the Olympic-colored Air Jordan 7s, that MJ rocked on his way to winning the gold as a member of the 1992 Dream Team squad.
For Mike Will, getting clean sneaker shots for the video were just as important as giving shine to his "23" collaborators. He was particularly disappointed that the camera didn't catch the fine details on his Defining Moments Air Jordan 11s, a limited edition riff on the pair of patent leather sneakers that Jordan wore in the 1995-1996 season where he won his fourth NBA championship. The only difference between the conventional Air Jordan 11s and the Defining Moments version that Mike Will wore are slight gold accents — and a couple of hundred bucks.
"I understand that sneaker culture, I understand that Jordan culture," Will said. "I know you want to get Miley looking fine as hell right here. I know you want to get Wiz and Juicy... But at the same time we have to get these shoes."
It was Mike's attention to detail which prompted his Airness to call. "He said he watched it a couple of times right then and there and he had to reach out to me," Mike Will recalled.
