There are certain perks that come with being attached to YMCMB, but Tyga isn't looking to use his Cash Money affiliations unless it makes absolute sense. On Tuesday, T-Raww released his 15-track Hotel California LP with only a one feature from his all-star crew.
Lil Wayne appears on the album's opener "500 Degrees" and while Hotel California houses plenty of guests like Rick Ross, Future, Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chainz, Game and even a posthumous Tupac contribution, noticeably absent are Nicki Minaj, Drake, Birdman and the rest of the YMCMB squad.
"I just make it organically, feel me," Tyga told MTV News when he sat with us on Thursday. "I had a track that I wanted Nicki on, but it just didn't work out."
Tyga insists that every artist that appears on his album was strategically placed and musically sound. "I just felt like I didn't wanna just put anybody on anything, so every song that I got a feature on, you can hear that person on that feature," he said. "It increases the song."
Cash Money CEO Birdman prides himself in his ability to let his artists create on their own terms. It's a strategy that suits Tyga well. "I've always treated my career independently because I feel like that's the best way," he said. "You gotta learn step-by-step what you're doing because one day you might just be doing it solo."
Ultimately Tyga aims to carve out his own lane to not only strengthen him as an artist, but also his team. "I think that's the best way too. You find yourself as an artist and you got your own fans and you just move eon your own really and people respect that more," he concluded.
